[Pic 10] Cwmorthin Quarry - Main Incline (1985)

The Main Incline dropped from level 6 down to the Lower Mills, passing connections on 4 other levels and 5 over bridges - the last of which was the original road up to Cwmorthin (seen close to the bottom of the incline) which crossed the incline on a more substantial bridge than did the intermediate levels. This old road was buried under the ever expanding waste tips by at least the 1880's. There was another (shorter) incline directly above the Main incline, dropping down from Level 8 down to Level 6.

A view of the Main Incline Drum House on floor 6 as it stood in 1985 - then surprisingly still intact - but later completely wiped away (as was all the Main Incline) during the 1990's working. Left of camera the second section of the incline rises up to Floor 8.
