[Pic 8] Cwmorthin Quarry - Narrow gauge wagon (1985)

A different view of the same Narrow gauge wagon seen in Pic 7. This is a very simple type designed for carrying a large slab of slate with (as mentioned) loose wheels to cope with a rough track of often varying gauge.

[Pic 9] Cwmorthin Quarry - Floor 2 South Adit (1985)

Located directly above the (wooded) remains of Cwmorthin House was the Floor 2 South Adit. Note the (partially hidden) chimney built above to take away fumes from a steam engine once located inside. Along this levels tramway (left of camera) was once the Floor 2 North Adit, located just above the Lake Adit. Behind camera the same tramway (which was once the main route for traffic from the Lake Mill prior to connecting with the Conglog Lake incline) ran round to a connection with the Floor 6 / Lower Mills main incline. In the 1920s, with this main incline out of use, another (short) incline was built close to the adit and dropped down to the Lake Mill. Just up the hillside (right of camera) was another Adit - Floor 3 South - which was long ago buried under waste rock.
