Welcome to ROTWSI - a personal collection of photographs covering various remains of the slate industry in North and Mid Wales. All the images viewed here are my own and were taken over a period of several decades - the bulk of these are scenes taken during the 1980's and 90's - plus a few more recent ones, many of which cover views and relics long vanished either through landscaping, modern workings, or the dreaded expanse of forestry planting.

All the quarries and sites featured here are located on private land and permission to view or explore them should always be sought from the land owner(s) or the occupier. Also follow the basic steps of the country code when out and about in the countryside, not forgetting that slate quarries are extremely hazardous places - upmost caution is needed even on a dry sunny day - and never venture underground without someone experienced in mines / caving exploration.
