Llyn y Gadair Slate Quarry 06 - Tip view Mk II (2013)

One more attempt at duplicating a 1990 photo to see the changes and this time its the view of the main tip arm with its tramway rails and incline drumhouse remains. Some pieces of the tramway are now missing, though many others remain, while the drumhouse is no more ruinous than it was then, but the tip itself is a little degraded - which isn't unusual given the location! The course of the tramway route, bypassing the incline, still raises a question - In the latter phase of the quarries life (assuming they used the mill on this level - given the other was never finished) what method was used for lowering the product down to lake level?

Llyn y Gadair Slate Quarry 07 - Main pit (2013)

Not a good photo but this does show the heavilly overgrown main pit that is located close to the upper mill. Very wet and very boggy - even on a hot summers day!

Llyn y Gadair Slate Quarry 08 - Upper mill II (2013)

The upper mill from the rear showing the timbers have rotted somewhat since 1990 - the trusses in particular - but most of the walls still remain as they were.

Llyn y Gadair Slate Quarry 09 - Beside the mill (2013)

On the outside of the western mill wall is this small plinth - built for a mounting of some sort? Or part of a shelter that housed something? Presumeably the mill had some sort of power (steam or internal combustion or water driven) and if so was it located here?

Llyn y Gadair Slate Quarry 10 - Shed (2013)

Back down to lake level and a closer view of the small building beside the exit route. As mentioned this was still intact in 1990, but is now a ruin with the roof completly gone. Note how, at some point in its life, the doorway has been half filled in.
